The Power of Sculpture: Masterpieces of Sculpture from the Middle Ages to the Modern Day in the Cummer Museum and DeMell Jacobsen Collections Lecture with Scott Brown, Ph.D., Professor of Art History, UNF

Second in a Three-Part Lecture Series Hosted by Cummer Beaches and sponsored by Diane Jacobsen, Ph.D.

Tuesday, March 7, 2023 | 7 to 8 p.m. | virtual  free

Sculpture is a medium of physical power: of weight, gravity, hammers and fire, stone, bronze, and steel.  Its force and resistance to change makes sculpture monumental—a fortress of memory and reminder of triumph and loss, of past ideals and present shames.  The rich collections of the Cummer Museum and DeMell Jacobsen Collection preserve masterpieces of sculpture from the Middle Ages to the American present, revealing the changing concepts of sculpture and of the gender, race, and ambitions of the artists who wield its power.
